My version of "mixed media" is a combination of acrylic painting,
and collage. I use a variety of vibrantly colored and printed papers,
envelopes, tissue paper, wallpaper and fabric scraps embedded in,
and under traditional acrylic paint. The most recent works feature
bits of beautiful silk from Vietnam, which my brother brought me from
his travels. This layering of a variety of textures and materials gives my
paintings a unique depth that one can really sink into.
As I mention in my biography, I am a packrat, a collector, and a recycler.
Anything catching my eye with an interesting shape, color, pattern, or texture
will be quickly swooped up and stashed in my studio for a future project.
Fragments, found objects and scraps, be they washers, petals, wire, or the
liner from a fancy envelope, fill my work with memories of other lifetimes.
